Working with tea reveals the essence of life’s ebbs and flows. As seasons change and world events refuse to let us rest, we can turn to tea as one of life’s wisest teachers. To really sit with a cup of tea is to really feel the moment you’re in, one small particle in the universe, fully conscious yet fully dissolved.

Tea brought many ‘pinch me’ moments in my life. The one that comes to mind the most is meeting a 16th generation Tea Master in Uji, Japan. I had a rare chance of meeting him in 2019 and in his eyes I saw deep settled happiness, a contentment build over a lifetime, without succumbing to hustle or worldly prestige. ‘If people would like to try my tea, they have to come to my tea house’. There’s only one in the world. No franchises, no expansion. Just real craft.

Another vivid memory comes from the misty hills of Darjeeling, home of the ‘champagne of teas’. Watching the spectacular sunrise from the chilly elevation of Tiger Hill, warming your hands around a hot cup of tea, is one of the intense experiences which is hard to describe, or replicate.

As the world opens up with each trip, I discover the cultures behind the cup. With tea being brewed all around the world, each culture truly makes it their own. I made it my lifelong quest to keep learning the wisdom of cultures through their tea tradition and share the learnings with the world, whether through tea blends, or experiences I’m lucky enough to host.
